To answer your question:
Cabernet is a kind of grapes that was first found in Europe. It is hard to find the real Cabernet now, instead, when people talk about Cabernet, they always refer to Cabernet Sauvignon, which is a cross breed from Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, two other type of grapes that we always found in Bordeaux wine.
Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the major grape varietals that winemakers use to make wine. The one that you just had is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and Merlot (30%). Cabernet Sauvignon gives the wine body and structure, the thick and tough skin of Cabernet Sauvignon protect the berries from rain ande retain the sugar contents. It also contributes to the color to the wine.
